Meeting Reminder

The May 2012 meeting of the Evergreen Stamp Club was held on Wednesday, May 16th from 7 to 9pm at Kent Commons in Kent.

New Meeting Room

The room for club meetings at Kent Commons is changing to a larger room,
which we are being told is also quieter than the room we have been using.
Meetings will now be in the Rainier Room. Apparently the room is hard to find;
ask at the front desk for directions if you don’t already know where it is.

Program:  Club member Carlos Pianelli will be giving a program at the May meeting.  Here is his announcement for the program:

"THE  PRICE  IS RIGHT", presented by  Carlos M. Pianelli

No, this is not a rerun of the classic television program. This is a philatelic related presentation testing your knowledge and guessing  talents.

This is a different program where you could win a prize and  new knowledge. Come over to this presentation and enjoy an evening of fun. The weather is going to just right . . . . .  I hope so!

I (newsletter editor Tim Greene) will again have my stock of mint US at the meeting, available for purchase below face.

Annual Summer Picnic

Dick Odell, who always hosts the summer club picnic at his home (usually late July), has suggested extending invitations to the picnic to members of other local stamp clubs.  We will discuss this idea at the May club meeting.

Christmas Party

Yes, it’s a little early to be talking about the December club meeting, which is always our Holiday party.  But Bill Geijsbeek has informed me that the nice big room we had for last year’s party has been secured again for the party this year.  Everybody I talked to about the room was highly pleased with it, so it is good to know we will be able to use it again.

Phyllis Lindecrantz

Please keep longtime club member Bob Lindecrantz in your thoughts; his wife Phyllis passed away shortly after the show the club put on in April.

July Evergreen Stamp Club show

Remember the summer show put on by the club, to be held at Kent Commons July 21-22.  These shows are big money makers for the club.  Think about things you can do to help out.

Show Exhibits

Club member Lisa Foster is heading a push to get some exhibits at the show.  Here is a note she sent me about the exhibits.

Would you like to share with other club members and attendees of the July Stamp Show your philatelic interests? The benefits include getting to know each other, promotion of the club and promotion of stamp collecting.

Entry options include:

  1. Submit an exhibit consisting of 16 (8 1/2x11) pages for each frame requested. We currently have 7 members who plan to submit 7 exhibits for a total of 19 frames.
  2. Join the Club Showcase Exhibit: create a one page (8 1/2 x11) exhibit to put in a frame with other members. The page can be in any format, on any topic you wish. It can be as simple as a page from your Album, or an analysis of a cover. We currently only have two members who have committed to submit a page.

Although this is a non-competitive exhibit we will have a "People's Choice Award". If you are interested, have any questions and/or suggestions please contact Lisa Foster at fosteld@earthlink.net or (253) 886-2785.

Seapex 2012:

Mint U.S. Postage

Tim Greene will again be bringing his stock of MNH US postage which he acquired at the Portland Harmer-Schau auction in October.  He will be bringing this to meetings regularly for at least the next several months in case anybody wants to buy some postage at below face.  Small amounts (including a few premium items) will be available at or slightly below face.  And if anyone is interested in large amounts of MNH US, he can sell for up to 20% below face for large quantities.

EVERGREEN STAMP CLUB 2012 membership Application

Copies of the club membership application for 2012 will be available at the club meeting.  Note that dues for 2012 is $20--turn in the application form to Bill Messecar.

Also note the membership application form asks whether you want to get your newsletter by US mail or by email.  If you are currently getting your newsletter by US mail but have email, consider changing – you will get your newsletter in a more timely way; and you will save the club the cost of postage.
